It’s a comfortable shoe.
Bought a pair of black monk strap shoes. Goodyear welted leather sole feels solid and comfortable to walk in. Unique colour of sole.
Managed to get the shoes on a special promotion. Unlike most shoes at this price point, this pair is not as difficult to break in. Delivery was quick too. Looks like a good deal!
Looks good, fits well, and smells amazing!
I can't put anything into word, well crafted shoes comfort and quality piece.
I will be purchasing more.
Good quality shoetrees. The size fits the shoe perfectly.
By far my most sensible choice..so smart ...can’t wait to put them on!
Very pleased with this choice, superb for work but also for dress down Friday look
A cool pair of shoes, semi casual but smart and attracts the right comments...a great buy and will be back for more should they ever wear out!
Shoes were comfortable from the start and of good quality. I was pleasantly surprised at the comfort and it didn't take much time to break in.
Good brush. Can consider purchasing.
I received my shoes just 2 days after I ordered on line. Delivery was so quick and it made me satisfied together with the quality of it.
Brought a pair of Churchill (Museum Craft) out of impulse during sale, but upon receive the good, I didn't regret making the purchase. The shoe leather and construction was of high quality. It is definitely worth the dollar. This is my first purchase with Jonathan Abel, and has subsequently brought another pair.
Nice and comfortable. Highly Recommended.
Have multiple different brands of shoes, ranging from freelance Indonesian shoemaker, to a heritage Spanish brand, to famous English made, to peculiar NYC brand (made in Italy), two heritage American brands, even down to an independent South American (Ecuador) brand.
First time getting a made in Portugal shoe. Safe to say, this pair of shoes is definitely well-made.
Price point for the quality given is superb - I always find that Spanish/Portuguese makers fare better than Italian when it comes to price to quality ratio.
- Narrow sole, looking smart and sleek
- Safe last shape, not too chiselled, not too round
- Beautiful patina blue leather sole
- Glues are not "leaking" or showing excess (some fray glues on the fibres of the leather at the ankle, nothing much to worry), all stitches are tight, no loose stitches as seen in many shoes around the $200-400 range.
- Some loose grains on the full-grain leather, but is to be expected at this price point (I have 2 lines that are on the left shoe, on the ankle facing the right feet)
- Saw quite a bit of black paints (very blended-in) colouration left near the welt at my left shoe. Cannot be seen unless you're holding the shoe and observing VERY carefully, so small matter as it's handmade.
Most importantly, I am very glad to see more shoe companies in local Singapore, no matter where they're made or at what price point. More choices mean better shopping experience for us too, will definitely support again (Aiming for the Dallas black captoe).
Very satisfied customer, indeed.
This Braddock is a beauty and workmanship is excellent.
Shoes are comfortable to wear.
These shoes look great out of the box - seem to be well made and nicely finished. These are slightly more slender than they appear in the picture which I prefer and they are very comfy. After wearing for a few hours I doubt they will take any time at all to wear in. Great shoe at a great price.
The leather also takes nicely to mirror shining.
This is a first-impression review of the Madison I received recently after buying two pairs on sale. I have only checked feel and fitting so far. I researched other reviews first e.g. Styleforum and agree with what has been said.
Importantly, first, on the sizing...my feeling is they run about a half-size big, at least in this chisel toe last. I generally take all shoes in a 40, some boots in 41 to allow for thicker socks. My true size is 40.5. So if you are right on the lower borderline of a size, take the next size down as they suggest, otherwise stick with your regular size (as others have said too).
The workmanship and quality seem impeccable to me, as good as Cheaney's I own and probably better than a pair of Barker's I own. The leather used is indeed softer, as they say. Break-in won't be an issue, and this is perhaps another reason why getting a size down is likely to be comfortable - again, if you are normally right on the smaller end of a particular size.
Given the softness, I will be careful not to over-condition these to keep them in their lasted shape. Again, top quality in the feel of the leather. The blue leather sole is to die for, too, to my taste, and the Goodyear welt done perfectly. I'm not aware of another manufacturer that does soles in this colour, very fetching.
As to the colour, I also bought the Hudson (same chisel last). The photos on their website look like the models are different shades of brown, but they are both the same Chocolate, as described and as I expected. Basically a regular dark brown colour that you would probably already have on hand (Boot Black polish for the win, if you are still using Saphir or something else!). I might experiment with some different shades of brown in future to differentiate them a little from one another.
All in all, buy with confidence and be very happy at the value. Can't see why they don't deserve a higher profile given the style and the value. Look out for their promotions too. I agree with another reviewer, I would buy these over any Allen Edmonds I've seen as these look classier, and less functional...
The sizing is always the nerve-wracking thing about buying shoes on the internet. Thankfully dress shoes don't vary as much as others, so I'm always safe with a 40 even if a little tight at first on some shoes. But if you have 40s that are usually a little roomy after stretching, definitely go the next size down. Not sure about their soft round last but I imagine it would be the same.
Really looking forward to road testing these once quarantine is lifted! But there is everything to suggest here that these will be a killer, comfortable, and hardwearing pair of shoes when I do. Thanks Jonathan Abel!
You wont be able to find a pair of goodyear welted shoes at such great value, was fortunate to get this pair during a 1 for 1 deal. However that takes nothing away from the fact that these shoes are exquisitely made, goodyear welted shoes for a price that other brands are charging for cemented construction made this purchase a no brainer!
Shoes are of extremely high quality and this museum calf leather gives a very unique look to the shoes. The dark blue soles give an understated elegance to it too. Interesting details all around and extremely comfortable too!
Bought this during a 1 for 1 deal. Great value for a pair of goodyear welted shoes. Extremely light yet leather is good and sturdy local brand deserves support!
The smell of cedarwood is great, springs allow flexibility in fitting the shoe too!
Wonderful nourishment for the shoe!
I bought a pair of Churchill's (black) and a pair of Arlington. Both came a few days ago...the packaging was fantastic and opening it up added to the whole experience. The shoes were really well made, lovely to look at and felt classy. I really liked the subtle dark blue soles..the sizing was just right and they were comfortable to wear as well.... overall, I couldn't be happier...am eyeing a pair of antique bordo Geneva's...a contrast elastic would have been a great touch...thank you Jonathan Able...cheers, Sandeep
Have pre-ordered this item and pending its arrival due to an exchange. The previous time i ordered, i could see its quality already, really excited to receive the new pair :-)
Excellent service and well made, comfortable shoes!
I bought a black and another brown Churchill and like the design very much
Got this polish from a trunk show. While it was not the closest match to my shoe colour, the polish was able to slightly darken parts of the shoe to a pleasant patina. The cream polish was easy to apply and left a slight shine after polishing with a brush. Only complain is that it is slightly pricey (less volume but almost the same price as Saphir MDO).
Bought a pair of Maine!
Very happy with the leather quality and design integrity and the ease of purchasing online
